Campbell Road Bridge Closing
Campbell Road will be closing August 1st for approximately 180 days for bridge replacement. Road closure signage has been posted at both ends of the road. Motorist should not attempt to use the road. On or around Tuesday, August 2nd or Wednesday, August 3rd, there will be a water main shutdown on Campbell Road to allow the contractor to disconnect the water main that crosses Campbell Road bridge. The shutdown is expected to take place between approximately 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on or around one of the above mentioned dates. Those impacted will be notified. It appears, at this time, that the temporary shutdown may affect Oakley Downs, The Park at Oakley Downs and approximately four houses on Campbell Road.
As part of the 2005 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), funds were designated to replace the old Campbell Road bridge over the CSX railroad line. This long-awaited SPLOST transportation project will begin in just a couple days. Please start making plans now to deal with the necessary detours if you use this route.
The new bridge will be an attractive design with better fencing, upgraded lighting, and wide sidewalks for safe pedestrian use. Overall, it will be much wider and safer than the current bridge. CSX and the State have a requirement that all new bridges over this rail line be designed and built to accommodate a possible third rail track. So, it will also be longer and 3 feet higher than before.
The estimated budget for this project is $2.9 Million.
