In March 2011, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners directed the Community Development Planning Division to create a master plan for Vinings. The Vinings Vision Plan will look to address a variety of uses including land use, transportation and community character & improvement. The goal of the process will be to provide a plan with recommendations and implementation items that the county and community can support.
Public participation and support will be crucial to the success of the project. Staff is planning at to have at least three public meetings during the year-long process. The first public meeting for the Vinings Vision Plan took place on May 23, 2011 at the Vinings United Methodist Church from 7:00-8:30 p.m. There were approximately 120 people present. The planning process, including the reasons for producing a master plan for Vinings and a potential timeline were discussed. After a Q & A session, the community was then broken up into five groups to discuss positives, negatives and
opportunities for the community. A community member from each of the groups was asked to share a few insights they had gained from the group discussion.
The reasons for a Vinings Vision master plan include:
- To help create a sense of place.
- To improve quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors.
- To address transportation and land use issues.
- To help preserve the historic and cultural resources.
The second Vinings Vision Plan is now scheduled for Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the Vinings United Methodist Church at 3101 Paces Mill Road from 7:00-9:00 p.m. to further the process.
