The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting for Hermi’s Pedestrian Bridge at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 23rd in the Vinings at 4199 Paces Ferry Road SE.

Speakers will include Cobb Chairman Tim Lee, Commissioner Bob Ott, Attorney General-elect Sam Olens and Cobb DOT Director Faye DiMassimo.

Cecil Alexander will also speak in honor of his wife, whom the bridge is named after. The bridge, first built in 1904, replaced a ferry operated by Hardy Pace as the primary way to get to Vinings from Buckhead. In 1974, the bridge was bypassed by a modern two-lane structure. In 1984, the bridge was formally named for Hermi Alexander, who was killed by a drunk driver the year before.

Mr. Alexander and his wife had been instrumental in saving the bridge from destruction when it was bypassed. After falling into disrepair, the bridge was closed to pedestrians in 2006.

Cobb County, City of Atlanta, the PATH Foundation and Alexander raised money to restore the bridge. Event parking will be available at Canoe Restaurant.
