Local Boy Scouts from Troop 11, Smyrna GA Honor Soldiers both Living and Dead this coming Memorial Day weekend.
Troop 11 Boy Scouts will participate in a Flag Placement Ceremony to be held at the National Cemetery in Marietta on Saturday, May 28, 2016. The flag placement has been an honored tradition of Troop 11 since Memorial Day Weekend 2010.
This year, while onsite honoring those who died for our Country in the Civil War, BSA Troop 11 will hold a book signing in partnership with Operation Soldier at Ease (OSAE) a local non-profit in Smyrna to support of our Active Troops.
The book signing event will be also be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 from 7:30 am until noon in front of the Cobb County Switzer Library at 266 Roswell Street in Marietta, located across the street from the Marietta National Cemetery.
Their goal — to heighten awareness of those soldiers returning home from active duty who are need of support, physically, emotionally as well as in every other way imaged.
Together, OSAE and Troop 11 provide a resource for these soldiers returning to the US — a book “Understanding Conflict, A Resource for the Military Family”…. in this book, readers will find specific strategies that will help make sense of what might seem like unfair, unrealistic expectations placed on Soldiers and their families as they serve our country.
At these book signing events Troop 11 provides the local community the chance to “Thank a Soldier” – by offering the inside front cover as a place to hand write a personal message to an active serviceman. This is done at no cost to those who wish to participate.
The books (with the notes) are taken by OSAE to upcoming Yellow Ribbon Ceremonies and passed out to the Soldiers returning to the US. They will have 80 books available for signing.
With a Yellow Ribbon Ceremony scheduled for Memorial Day Monday, they will need support from everyone in the local community to reach their goal of having 1 personalized book for each returning soldier.
