Nixle-Smyrna-Alert-System

Do you Nixle?

It certainly came in handy during all that snow and ice we endured the other week. If you’re saying to yourself, what is Nixle, then you’ve come to the right place.

The City of Smyrna launched a citizen notification service last year that delivers important and timely emergency and general information to Smyrna residents using the latest technology available.

The notification service, NIXLE, alerts residents to emergency weather events, road closings, public safety advisories, natural and manmade disasters, and general city information through email and text messaging.

You might be thinking that you’re covered since you’re following the City of Smyrna’s tweets and are a fan of their Facebook page, but in reality the most critical emergency information goes through the Nixle system.

So not only is it great when a snowstorm hits and it warns of particular roads that are shut down due to cars sliding off the road, but it’s also helpful for everyday use when there’s a fender bender at the intersection of Windy Hill Road and Atlanta Road.

How Do You Sign Up?

Simply click to register for Nixle, it’s free and is easy. Those who wish to register will need to create an account with a user name and password, enter an email address and/or cell phone number where you would like to receive the messages, and then enter your address. Click the ‘Sign Me Up’ button to complete the registration.

Currently, residents who register will receive alerts for weather events, road closing, and public safety advisories.

Please note that your cell phone provider’s text messaging rates will apply.
