What’s on your wish list? Sounds like a catchy slogan from some credit card commercial, right? Well, it’s also applicable to the SPLOST project list. The Cobb Board of Elections voted to certify the results form the special election on March 15th.
The SPLOST or Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax was approved by 90 votes. The current SPLOST program for Cobb County, approved in 2005, passed by only 114 votes, so these tight races aren’t uncommon.
The four-year extension of the Cobb’s current one-percent sales tax is expected to generate $492 million for parks, roads and facilities improvements and renovations for Cobb and its six cities.
The election resulted in a mere 11% of registered voters turning out to cast their vote in what was a hotly debated campaign between the pro- and anti-SPLOST groups out there.
So what’s on your wish list? May or may not be what’s on the SPLOST wish list. SPLOST transportation highlights include:
- Roadway capacity and operational improvements
- Roadway resurfacing
- Replacement and rehabilitation of structurally deficient bridges
- Expanded sidewalk coverage
- Transit operational improvements
- Various municipal transportation improvements
