Daylight Saving Time Resumes March 12, 2023

For most Americans, Daylight Saving Time begins in 2023 at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 12th, when most states spring forward and daylight saving time resumes.

Daylight saving time was first proposed by Benjamin Franklin in 1784 as a way to save candles. However, it was not until World War I that daylight savings time was actually implemented. Germany was the first country to adopt daylight saving time in an effort to conserve energy. The idea quickly spread to other countries, including the United States.

In the United States, daylight saving time was first implemented during World War I but was later repealed. It was then reinstated during World War II and has been observed on and off ever since.

The federal government doesn’t require U.S. states or territories to observe daylight saving time, which is why residents of Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Marianas Islands won’t need to turn back their clocks this weekend.

The primary benefit of daylight saving time is that it allows people to enjoy more daylight during the summer months. This means that people can spend more time outside and engage in outdoor activities. Additionally, daylight saving time can also help to conserve energy by reducing the need for artificial lighting.

Hopefully, since we’re springing forward it will feel more like Spring, which officially begins on March 20th. After our recent warm weather, unfortunately it now looks like we may be heading back into winter for a couple weeks.

The other advantage of daylight saving time is it means you have more daylight hours to look for homes. If you’re thinking about buying a Smyrna home this year, contact us now to get started.
