Smyrna Vinings Fireworks Tips
Cookouts, parades, homemade ice cream, watermelon and time with family and friends are all part the gatherings that will take place on the day we celebrate our country’s independence. When you add in fireworks though, you potentially add danger to your family, friends and neighbors.
For those who insist on using fireworks this Fourth of July, please follow these safety measures:
General Fireworks Safety
- Use only legal fireworks.
- Store fireworks away from heat sources and out of a child’s reach.
- Always read and follow fireworks labels.
- Place easily frightened pets indoors.
- Always have water handy, preferably a hose, a bucket of water and a fire extinguisher.
When Lighting Fireworks
- Only adults should light fireworks.
- Keep matches and lighters away from children.
- Use fireworks outdoors only.
- Only light fireworks on a noncombustible surface; concrete, sand, asphalt, etc.
- Light only one firework at a time and move away quickly.
- Keep children and pets away from lit fireworks.
- Do not throw or hold light fireworks.
After Fireworks Are Lighted
- Soak used fireworks thoroughly in a bucket of water.
- Dispose of used fireworks and debris properly.
Never relight a “dud” firework and wait 15 to 20 minutes before soaking it in a bucket of water.
Let’s remember these tips and have safe Smyrna Vinings Fourth of July festivities.
