Cobb County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the final design for the new multi-use bridge on Tuesday night. The bridge will connect Cobb Galleria with the new Atlanta Braves SunTrust Park. The bridge will span I-285 and allow pedestrian and shuttle access to the new home of the Atlanta Braves.
The bridge is estimated to cost about $10 million with majority of the funding coming from a $5 million contribution from the Cumberland Community Improvement District (CCID) and $4.5 million in federal grants. The bridge will connect the Cobb Galleria with the new SunTrust Park.
This will allow safer pedestrian access to the new facility and alleviate some traffic concerns with the new project. The goal is to have the bridge ready for Opening Day 2017.
The Atlanta Braves project will redefine the traditional model of a “live, work, play” development into a “play, work, stay: destination. SunTrust Park will flow directly into the surrounding mixed-use development, creating a lively shopping and entertainment district accessible 365 days a year. The plaza outside the gates of SunTrust Park will help visitors transition from the external development into the friendly confines of the park. At the north end of the plaza will be The Roxy, a 50,000 square-foot indoor entertainment venue that will play host to a variety of concerts and special events.
The Braves stadium will feature 41,500 seats, a three-deck design and an extensive canopy.
