Smyrna’s Keep Smyrna Beautiful program garners national awards again and continues a pattern of excellence in service to the Smyrna community that spans 23 years of awards recognition for service and progress with most recent awards at the 60th Keep America Beautiful National Conference in Washington DC, January 29, 2013.
The most recent awards feature the 2012- First Place Non-Profit Litter Prevention Nationwide award for Smyrna’s creative use of the “Littering Is Wrong, Too'” campaign in addition to Adopt A Mile and other numerous litter prevention and litter cleanup programs.
Additionally, Keep Smyrna Beautiful brought home the 2012 Keep America Beautiful 2nd Place National Affiliate award (Competing in population category 50,001-200,000) recognizing excellence in overall programming and results.
Keep Smyrna Beautiful volunteer and Board Member, Angie Bolton, who is also an IBM employee, was singled out among volunteers representing nearly 600 certified affiliates nationwide with the Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson Award. Bolton has organized volunteer projects that benefit the Smyrna community and local schools ranging from large-scale tree plantings and cleanup efforts to development of the Smyrna Community Garden. Bolton has been in active service to the Smyrna community for eight years. The Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson Award was created in honor of the former First Lady’s contribution to beautification efforts across the country.
