Oakdale Park was opened by Cobb County Parks Department in the fall of 2007. It is located on Atlanta Road at the intersection of Daniel Street, which is just north of the Atlanta Road/Cumberland Parkway intersection. Click here for directions to Oakdale Park.
Oakdale Park also serves as a trailhead for the Cumberland Connector, which is an extension of the Silver Comet Trail. The park is divided into two playgrounds, one is for toddlers/beginning walkers (infant-3yr olds) and includes a swingset with bucket seats (early crawlers). The other side of the playground has more advanced playground equipment.
Both sides have bench seats for the parents. Between the two sides of the playground is a restroom area. The surface of the playground is made of a soft rubber material. The toddler playground area has a partial wraparound fence with the entrance/exit open to the adjacent sidewalk area that runs through the park.
The older kid playground has a full wraparound fence with one entrance/exit gate. Very little shaded area throughout the park, however a grassy area within the park area facilitates blankets for picnics or enjoyment/relaxation in the sun.
The park location is conveniently located to Ivy Walk with plenty of kids shopping and restaurants. Another favorite kid hangout, Kangazoom, is a short drive south on Atlanta Road approximately ½ mile.
The traffic along Atlanta Road would seem to cause a little jitters with parental nerves, however I have found this park to be as social as any other in the Smyrna Vinings community. Basically, you can find several children spanning all age groups from about 10am -5pm.
Anyway, great park for the area, but bring lots of suntan lotion.
