Vinings is actually an unincorporated area, which is governed by Cobb County and somewhat self-governed through the Vinings Homeowners Association. In fact, the Vinings Homeowners Association defines the area of Vinings Village as follows.
The northern-most part of Vinings is that area along and south of Stillhouse Road and Ranch Road, west of Cobb Parkway, and east of the railroad tracks. Vinings then includes all of the residential areas in Cobb County down to the Chattahoochee River, and then to the west up to the railroad tracks and then across to include all of the homeowners along Log Cabin Drive between Plant Atkinson Road and Cameron Place.
In 2014, the U.S. Post office increased the boundaries of the 30339 zip code to also include all residents from around Log Cabin Drive down to South Cobb Drive inside I-285, thus changing their zip code from 30080 Smyrna to 30339 Atlanta or Vinings. So a more general description of Vinings, is the area of zip code 30339 located between I-285 on the west, the Chattahoochee River on the east, Cumberland Boulevard to the north and South Cobb Drive and the Chattahoochee River to the south.
With the change in legislation and the subsequent incorporations as cities of Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Dunwoody, Johns Creek and Milton, it was only a matter of time before Vinings would also consider become a self-governing city. While substantially smaller than these other areas, the community is an extremely affluent area that wants more control over development and tax dollars in the area. It has been a subject of discussion, but Vinings currently is still unincorporated.
Vinings Village represents a scenic area, rich in natural beauty, just minutes from downtown Atlanta. A Polo Field and pasture add to the bucolic environment, while a limited commercial area is comprised of fashionable restaurants, boutique retail, and professional offices housed in historic structures. The community is home to some great shopping and restaurants located in the Vinings Village / Vinings Jubilee. You won’t find another shopping/dining district in metro Atlanta with more charm.
Enjoy some long-time favorites such as The Vinings Inn and Canoe to the more hip and eclectic menu offered at SoHo. Vinings is also home to the Overlook office buildings and the newer developments such as One Vinings Mountain and The Aberdeen.
Vinings offers charming neighborhoods with a vast array of amenities for residents and businesses. But better yet, the community is still one of the most affordable locations with such close proximity to Atlanta and also is home to the Cochise Riverview Club, a private neighborhood swim and tennis facility. Residents of Vinings Village are permitted to become members. Vinings also provides access to the Chattahoochee River. Hike, bike, walk or run the 3.6 mile, paved Bob Callan Trail along Rottenwood Creek and the Chattahoochee River at Paces Mill Park and West Palisades in Vinings.
Cobb County School System operates the public schools serving Vinings. The public elementary school is Teasley Elementary, Nickajack Elementary, Campbell Middle School and Campbell High School. Cobb County’s International Baccalaureate magnet program is centered at Campbell High School.
