Lewis A. Ray Library
The Lewis A. Ray Library is conveniently located directly behind West Village in Smyrna. The Lewis A. Library is one of sixteen libraries run by the Cobb County Library system.
In 1962 the Lemons-Vinings area was a growing area of Cobb County with new subdivisions, stores, fire stations and schools – but no library. The Trillium Garden Club voted to spearhead a drive to develop a branch library in cooperation with the Cobb County-Marietta Library System. The Oakdale Library opened in October of that year in the basement of the Oakdale Fire Station on S. Atlanta Road. The current facility located at 4500 Oakdale Road was built with $88,000 provided from bond funds and was dedicated in March 1967. The branch was named in honor of Dr. Lewis A. Ray, a local dentist, who was the Chairman of the Cobb County-Marietta Library System.
The Lewis A. Ray Library is known as “the popular library,” as the collection focuses on current materials. The patronage includes many who have been using the branch since it opened, as well as new residents and visitors seeking library services. The Lewis A. Ray Branch provides a broad range of resources responsive to the diverse and changing needs of our community.
The library offers programs for all ages. Stop by and check it out or go online to their website to learn more about their programs and activities including storytime for babies through young children.
