Christmas is over, so what to do with the Christmas tree?

Recycle that Tree! ….Bring One For The Chipper!

Home Depot on Cumberland Parkway and Keep Smyrna Beautiful will again host the Smyrna Vinings area site for the Christmas tree recycling event on Saturday, January 4, 2020. Rather than ending up in a landfill, the thousands of trees taken at this event are chipped by Davey Tree Company who makes the mulch from the trees available to businesses, schools, and residents free of charge. Volunteers will be on hand to direct traffic and to …help citizens unload their trees.

Bring One For The Chipper will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Home Depot parking lot on Cumberland Parkway.

How can you participate? If you would like to donate your tree, simply remove all the ornaments and the base and bring it to the Home Depot on Cumberland Parkway between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on January 4th. Home Depot asks that trees not be dropped off until the day of the event because of space limitations. Bring One for the Chipper is for live trees only. No artificial trees are collected at this event. All trees must be free of all lights or ornaments. They do not accept garland, wreaths, or any flocked trees.

This is the 29th year for the Bring One For The Chipper event. Each year, Keep Georgia Beautiful works with private sponsors to organize the recycling event. These statewide sponsors included The Home Depot, The Davey Tree Expert Company, Georgia Forestry Commission, One Tree Planted and WXIA-TV. Numerous local sponsors and volunteers also make contributions and provide in-kind services across the state.

Since its inception, the network has recycled over 6 million Christmas trees. and that number continues to grow each year. Resulting mulch gets donated to playgrounds, government beautification projects, parks, and individual yards. In certain communities, trees are also transformed into fish habitats at local lakes.
