A strong advocate for education, Mayor Bacon created this award recognizing educational excellence in late 2005 to acknowledge the exceptional academic achievement of Smyrna school students and outstanding staff and volunteers for their contributions.

I am excited about recognizing our students for their academic accomplishments, Bacon said. Not only is it the kids, but the parents, volunteers and teachers constant support of our schools that make them the best places to be.

Each of the principals from the 14 Smyrna area schools selected the names of the award recipients’ student, staff member and volunteer and brief description about the accomplishments, activities and/or service of each recipient.
