It’s time to think about how to enjoy this season’s somewhat mixed-up weather (record-setting pollen levels and snowflakes, anyone?), how to keep the kids occupied until school gets out, and better yet, what patios to convene at for a nice afternoon libation.

Late April and the month of May abound with activities in Smyrna. The weekend of April 25th will kick the season off as the Spring Jonquil Festival, Jonquil City Jog and Atkins’ Park Annual Charity Crawfish Boil come to downtown Smyrna.

The festival – to be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. – will offer visitors the usual array of crafts, jewelry, art, food, music and performances, plus activities for the kiddies. Make sure to stop by the Smyrna Library’s used books table for some really great finds.

The Jonquil City Jog will take place the morning of the 25. Registration starts bright and early at 7 a.m., while the 5K Fun Run/Walk starts at 8 a.m., Fun Run and Fitness Walk at 9 a.m., and Tot Trot at 9:15 a.m.

You can register online, and learn more about the event, at http://www.active.com until Thursday, April 23 at 6 p.m., or at the Smyrna Community Center until noon on Friday, April 24. Adults are $20 with advance registration, and $25 on race day. Children 12 and under are $15, and the Tot Trot is free. Proceeds from the race benefit the Campbell High School Educational Foundation.

The race will begin and end near City Hall and the Market Village. All first-place finishers will receive a key-lime pie from Kenny’s Great Pies in Smyrna.

Also on the 25th, Atkins Park will host the 7th Annual Charity Crawfish Boil from 1 to 11 p.m. in the Market Village. The $5 cover will benefit the Mustard Seed Communities. Bands scheduled to play include the Squirrelheads, Almost Blue and Andrew Black. And Atkins Park will continue to host Dave FM’s Acoustic Sunset Series in the Market Village. Performances will take place each Sunday this Spring from 4 to 7 p.m. Visit daveFM for lineup and dates.
