Atlanta Botanical Garden Waterlilies

One of the things that is great about living in Smyrna Vinings is the proximity to so many interesting parks, museums and restaurants in Atlanta. Recently we decided to take a “Smyrna Vinings Sunday Detour” and headed ITP (inside the Perimeter) for a day at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Located on the northside of Piedmont Park off of Piedmont Road, we were excited to check out David Rogers’ Big Bugs and Killer Plants exhibit.

We started out by heading to the Children’s Garden. My kids loved checking out the plants, walking under the waterfall, finding all the frogs and best of all the water misters located in the gardens.

We toured through the other gardens including the Rose Garden, Rock Garden, Japenese Garden, the Fuqua Conservatory and Fuqua Orchid Center, the Conservation Gardens and the Aquatic Pool.

Big Bugs at the Atlanta Botanical Garden

The Big Bugs were great and interspersed amongs the various exhbits. My kids really enjoyed finding fish and frogs in the various ponds and water features, the different birds in the Conservatory, but my daughter’ s real favorite was the killer carnivirous plants. Seems that she really likes the concept of plants that eat bugs. So much so, we had to run out and buy a pitcher plant for our pond. Most amazing were definitely the orchids and also the huge variety of water lillies with dazzling colors.

The trip was well worth it and the Atlanta Botanical Garden is a must see for everyone. They also offer a lot of educational programs for children as well as programs such as Cocktails in the Garden and Concerts in the Garden.
